Answers to Common Water Treatment Questions

Does reverse osmosis water taste better?
A solution with a low concentration of salt will migrate toward a solution with a higher concentration of salt. This natural tendency is known as “osmosis.” Reverse osmosis, on the other hand, is a process used to demineralize and deionize water. When enough pressure is applied to water, and it is pushed through a semipermeable reverse osmosis membrane, only some of the atoms or molecules pass through. The pure water moves through to the other side, while contaminants like chlorine and lead are held back.
A reverse osmosis system allows you to remove sediment and other contaminants from the water in your home. Connection and installation are a breeze; these systems can even be hooked up to your fridge for easy access!
Having a drinking water system in your home is convenient, tasty, and financially smart. In addition, it’s also more eco-friendly: it takes 450 years for just one plastic water bottle to decompose.
Yes, but don’t take our word for it — try it out for yourself! Stop by our Howell or Fenton locations and check out our self-serve water fill station to try purified reverse osmosis water at an affordable price. You can bring your own water jugs or purchase them from us.

How do I know if my drinking water is safe?
The FDA sets standards for packaged drinking water to ensure it is safe enough. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does the same for tap water.
They classify contaminants into the following four categories:
- Physical (visible particles like soil or rock)
- Chemicals (pesticides, metals, toxins, etc.)
- Biological (bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other living organisms)
- Radiological
In addition to health concerns, certain contaminants can create more noticeable water problems like strange odors, discoloration, or unpleasant tastes.
All water systems that serve 100,000 or more American households are required to provide annual water quality reports. You can visit the EPA website for water system reports in your area and check the contaminant levels and acceptable cutoffs. (Please note that the EPA does not regulate private wells. You are responsible for testing your own well water.)

How does a water filter work?
Water filters remove contaminants from tap water, making it safe to consume. A home water filter can be installed quickly and easily to increase the safety and purity of your drinking water.
There are many different types of filters, but some of our most popular options and processes for the removal of impurities include:
- Air-injection (AIO) water filtration systems
- Arsenic Filtration
- Iron Filtration
- Whole house UV filtration system
- Lead removal solutions
- Sediment filters
- Carbon filters
- Specialty filters
- Designer faucets available
Not all water filters are created equal, but Beauchamp Water Treatment Solutions can help you make the right choice to protect your household.

What's the difference between hard water and soft water?
Hard water is the result of an excessive build-up of substances that include iron, calcium, and magnesium. Well water is notoriously associated with being "hard water." Hard water is bad for your hair and skin. It can also damage pipes and leave behind white, cloudy water spots or stains on dishes and other surfaces. It can even decrease the effectiveness of soap and make it harder to lather up when cleaning.
Soft water, on the other hand, is gentler because it has had these harsh minerals removed via water softeners.
-
How does a water softener work?
Our water softeners utilize an ion-exchange process to change water hardness level. During this process, the water passes through resin beads which are charged with sodium ions. These sodium ions attract and hold back hard-water minerals like calcium and magnesium. The water is clean and softened after it has passed through the beads.
For Better Water Quality, Invest in a Filtration System from Beauchamp Water Treatment Solutions!
Approximately 145 million Americans get their tap water from a groundwater source. In fact, three out of four Michigan residents use untreated well water, which could expose them to harmful minerals and contaminants, including arsenic.
Water undergoes a variety of industrial and biological processes before it enters your home plumbing system, but that doesn't guarantee you'll avoid contamination. Fortunately, with numerous water softener and filtration system options, we can help you find the best solution to keep your family safe and hydrated.
